Introduction to IELTS Reading
IELTS Reading Test:
Ielts Reading test consisits of three passages. Each passage contains 13 to 14 questions. The total number of questions in ielts reading test is 40. There are 2,150-2,750 words altogether that a student has to read in a IELTS reading test.
Note that: IELTS academic and IELTS general training Reading test differs from each other.
Purpose of reading test
Ielts Reading test is designed to test the following skills:
a. The ability to find out the general notion of a passage.
b. The skill to find out the prominant features of the reading passage.
c. The ability of answering a question in searching a fixed location of a reading passage.
d. The dexterity to understand what was the writer's underlying motivation during the passage writing.
e. The talent to understand how to organize your ideas while writing a discourse on any topic.
Timing:
Ielts reading test for 60 minutes. There is no extra time in ielts reading like ielts listening for transfering your answers in the answer sheet.

Every question takes equal one marks in IELTS Reading Test. So, 40 questions take 40 marks. But then, the acquired marks out of 40 are converted to a mark out of 9.
